Set in 19th-century New York City the grisly psychological thriller follows a criminal psychologist (aka alienist) Dr Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl), a newspaper illustrator John Moore (Luke Evans) and a determined secretary hoping to become the city’s first female police detective Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning), whilst they investigate a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes and hunt to find the killer.
